- Description: Sixteen signs and a big table are now three gauges: the low, the fuel and the trigger. Here is what they read when the real 2020-21 season began, and when the weak 2023-25 one did.
- Author: Oz

The Altseason Dashboard checks 16 signs from every altcoin cycle since 2015 and sets this week next to six past seasons. That is a lot of numbers. Useful, but a lot to take in at a glance.

So we have put the whole picture into three gauges at the top of the page. One look tells you how close this week is to what the real alt seasons had when they began.

## Three gauges, three questions

Every real alt season since 2015 went through the same three steps, in the same order. Each gauge counts how many of that step's signs are on.

- **1\. The low.** Has the crash happened? Altcoins and Bitcoin far below their highs, months after the peak, most holders underwater.
- **2\. The fuel.** Is there money to spend on alts? Cheap money, new cash coming into crypto and an appetite for risk.
- **3\. The trigger.** Has the switch from Bitcoin started?

## What the gauges read when two seasons began

Here are the same three gauges in the week the big 2020-21 season began, and in the week the weak 2023-25 one began.

![The Altseason Dashboard gauges in January 2021 and October 2023](https://storage.ghost.io/c/1f/a8/1fa84cb8-a9d7-42fa-9a80-c94ebf166e86/content/images/2026/11/2026-11-04_altseason-gauges-then-1200x640.png)

**January 2021.** All six fuel signs and all four trigger signs were on. The low was well behind it by then, so most of the low signs had already switched off. Over the season the altcoin market went 4.9x and Bitcoin's share of the market fell from 69% to 41%. That is a real alt season: alts beating Bitcoin.

**October 2023.** The low looked done, with 3 of 5 signs on. But only one fuel sign was on and no trigger signs. Alts still went 3.5x in dollars, yet Bitcoin's share barely moved, from 52% to 51%. Alts rose, and Bitcoin still did better.

The difference was the fuel. In January 2021 the 10-year real yield was below zero and stablecoin supply was up 61% in 13 weeks. In October 2023 the real yield was 2.46% and stablecoin supply was shrinking.

## The fuel gauge across every season

The page now also shows how many fuel signs were on when each past season began:

- 2017, second leg: 6 of 6
- 2020-21: 6 of 6
- 2017, first leg: 3 of 6
- DeFi summer 2020: 3 of 6
- 2015-16: 1 of 6
- 2023-25, the weak one: 1 of 6

The two biggest seasons started with a full tank.

## What else is new on the page

- **A plain verdict** at the top, in one sentence.
- **What would change the picture:** the key fuel signs that are missing this week, with their readings.
- **The top warning** as a simple light: on or off.
- **The closest past season**, with how alike this week is.

The full detail is still underneath for anyone who wants it: every sign with its reading and record, the table against six past seasons and the chart since 2015.

## Where do the gauges sit this week?

Alpha Insider members see all three gauges filled in for this week, updated every day, along with which signs are on. Everyone can see the name of the past season this week looks most like, and drag through any week since 2015 to see what the gauges said back then.
