Introduction

Phantom started as a Solana wallet… but in 2025 it now supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, Base, and more. That update makes it one of the easiest multi-chain wallets for retail users.

In this guide I’ll show you exactly how to add Bitcoin to Phantom Wallet — from installation and setup, to sending your first BTC, and keeping it safe.

Step 1: Install Phantom

  • Go to phantom.com/download.
  • Choose browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge) or the iOS/Android app.
  • Add the extension/app and open it.

Step 2: Create or Import a Wallet

You’ll see two options:

  • Create new wallet → use seedless login (Google/Apple + PIN/biometric) or a 12-word recovery phrase.
  • Import existing wallet → enter your Secret Recovery Phrase if you already use Phantom.

⚠️ Always back up your recovery phrase offline. Never share it.

Step 3: Switch to Bitcoin Network

  • In the Phantom interface, click the network selector.
  • Choose Bitcoin from the supported blockchains list.
  • A fresh Bitcoin address (starting with “bc1…”) is generated for you.

Step 4: Add Bitcoin

You now have two choices:

  1. Receive BTC → copy your Phantom Bitcoin address and send BTC from another wallet or exchange. Always test with a small amount first.
  2. Buy BTC inside Phantom → use the integrated on-ramp (MoonPay, Coinbase Pay, or other partners) depending on your region. Fees vary.

Step 5: Check and Use

  • Confirm the BTC has landed by checking your Phantom balance.
  • From here you can send BTC, view transactions, or connect to supported apps.
  • Note: Phantom is a self-custody wallet, so you control the keys. Transactions are final once confirmed.

Safety Checklist

  • Double-check you’re on the Bitcoin network before sending.
  • Verify address each time (QR or copy-paste).
  • Back up your recovery phrase/seedless login recovery method.
  • Start with small test transfers before larger amounts.

Mini FAQs

Does Phantom support Bitcoin?

What are the fees for sending BTC?
You pay the standard Bitcoin network fee (varies by congestion). Phantom doesn’t add extra spread beyond miner fees.

Is Phantom safe for Bitcoin?
Yes, provided you back up your recovery phrase or seedless login method. Phantom is non-custodial — you hold the keys.
