I called this a correction rather than a bear market in June, and it was not a popular view. February took price down hard. July took it down again to $57,748. Two lows in five months, and the reasonable read on that is a bear market unfolding. Plenty of people said so and put numbers on it, thirty to fifty thousand, including members here.
That was not an unreasonable conclusion. It is what the four year cycle framework says should happen, and the evidence for my view was thin while price sat in the range doing nothing.
The conviction was not a feeling. The measures I use put this in a correction rather than a bear market, and they kept saying so through both lows. Open interest held a higher low while price made lower ones, which is positioning exhaustion rather than a market that wants to keep falling. On-chain, neither capitulation condition ever met, and the washout everybody was waiting for never printed. Those readings did not change because price went down, and I do not change a call because it becomes unpopular.
What a framework does not give you is timing. It can tell you the low is in and say nothing about when price agrees. Between July and August price did not agree, and that stretch is uncomfortable regardless of how solid the reading underneath it is.
What I did do was say what would make it wrong. Asked directly on X on 14 July what would confirm the mid cycle read and what would invalidate it, I gave a specific answer: new lows into September or October. That means a break below $57,748, the low set on 1 July.
That window opens on 1 September. Price sits well above the level, so the condition looks unlikely from here, but unlikely is not resolved. It stays open in the scorecard until the end of October.
If new lows arrive, the mid cycle read was wrong and it goes in the table as a miss at the same size as everything else in it.
The engine ended August at 33.5, up 13.3 across the month and still inside accumulation. A 23.68% week did not take Bitcoin out of the accumulation band, which is the more interesting fact than the jump itself.
The families tell the story better than the score. Holder conviction went from 22 at the end of July to 60. Miner economics went from 30 to 48. Valuation stayed at 22 and chain flows at 12, both unmoved. Holders and miners repriced the breakout. The underlying valuation did not.
Out of accumulation and into late-cycle, the largest and fastest move the engine has made across these weekly reads, and it held. The score ended August at 51 after sitting at 27.54 two weeks before.
The first week of the move was led by three families while long-held coins stayed put, which made it a partial picture. By month end that had changed. Value 54.3, profit-taking 55.9, holder behaviour 56.2, long-held coins up from 19.5 to 23.4. Coin days destroyed tripled in the final week. Aged supply started participating. Staking remains unscored, so this reads four families rather than five.
Off the floor and still inside the bottom zone. No exit, no three-week hold, no confirmation. Both prior episodes produced their moves after the zone ended rather than during it, so sitting inside the zone is not the event. Two ended episodes is a thin sample, the index carries survivorship bias, and index behaviour differs from any individual coin. Context, not a signal. August ended with the measure 42 weeks into the zone, having travelled 37% against 293% and 112% in the two prior episodes.
September is the month the invalidation window runs. On 14 July, asked on X what would prove the mid cycle read wrong, I gave a specific answer: new lows into September or October. That means a break below $57,748, the low set on 1 July.
That window is now open and runs to the end of October. Price sits well above the level, so the condition looks unlikely from here. Unlikely is not resolved, and it stays open in the scorecard until it is.
Two other things sit alongside it. A new monthly level has printed, formed off August's range, and that is where a correction is most likely to find support rather than where price stalls. And the first real pullback since the breakout has not come. It settles the standing call about the June low, because holding the levels reclaimed in August is the test that call needs.
August closed at $78,579, which puts the month out above $78,116 rather than at it. That level was resistance a month ago. It is support now, or it is not, and September answers that.
The Month Unplugged is the monthly record of what was called and what happened, published with the misses alongside the hits. Members read each of these calls the week it was made, in Oz Updates.
