Methodology
Ethereum gets read on its own record.
The easy version of this tool would have been the Bitcoin Barometer pointed at a different asset. That version was not built. Ethereum has a different holder base, a different history and a different on-chain fingerprint, so it got its own engine and its own zones.
Members were already reading Bitcoin's cycle position on-chain. The obvious next question was whether Ether was cheap or expensive on the same basis, and the obvious shortcut was to run Ethereum through the Bitcoin engine and publish whatever came out.
That shortcut produces a number. It does not produce a meaningful one. Ethereum's supply behaves differently, its holder cohorts behave differently, and several of the measures that carry real information for Bitcoin carry very little for Ether. A composite built on Bitcoin's assumptions would have been confidently wrong in a way that is hard to detect from the outside, which is the worst failure mode a tool like this has.
So the Ethereum Barometer is a separate engine with its own carriers, its own families, and six named zones running from deep accumulation up to overheated. It answers where Ether sits in its own cycle. It says nothing about Ether against Bitcoin, which is a different question with a different framework behind it.
Different carriers, a different family structure, and a different zone scheme from the Bitcoin tool. The two share a philosophy and almost nothing else. The only thing the two Barometers have in common is the belief that an asset should be judged against its own history. Everything downstream of that belief was rebuilt for Ethereum.
Long-dormant coins beginning to move is a genuinely different event depending on where valuation already sits. In a cheap market it is often noise. In a stretched one it is the thing you were watching for. The engine treats that group of measures as conditional rather than absolute, so old coins moving does not read as heat on its own.
Each measure is ranked against a distribution built from a fixed historical window, and that window was frozen on a set date and is not moved forward. The most recent stretch of history sits outside it. A model that keeps absorbing the present will always look well calibrated to the present. Freezing the window is what makes the recent record worth anything as a check.
Staking and new-supply flows are not scored. The one available measure for it moved against the cycle and was removed, and no replacement has been sourced. Rather than scoring it zero and letting the composite look complete, the page shows an empty card and says why. A zero is a claim. A blank is the truth.
The top of the range rests on very little history
Ethereum's on-chain record in its current form is short, and the era that matters most for these measures contains only one major top so far. Everything at the low and middle of the range is anchored in repeated history. The two highest zones are anchored in almost none. The tool says so on screen when a reading enters them.
The reading discipline that follows is the same one the Bitcoin tool needs, arriving by a different route: treat the high end as directional, not precise, and never as an instruction to sell. There is no accuracy figure attached to this tool and no claimed track record, because there is not yet enough forward history to support either.
It reads the level, and the level can sit still for a long time
A cheap reading can stay cheap for months and a heated reading can stay heated for just as long. That is a property of what the tool measures. It is a position gauge, and a position gauge that flickered would be measuring something else. If you are looking for the moment a level changes, this is the wrong instrument.
One coverage gap, disclosed rather than filled
The composite runs without the staking and new-supply family. The honest consequence is that the reading is built on the measures that are available, and a whole area of Ethereum's mechanics is currently unrepresented in it. The page also publishes how much of its intended coverage it actually had on any given day.
The gaps are published too.
